PEAPAC Recommends: NO

God gives the freedom of the marketplace to determine wages; state interference leads to inflation and debased currency.

Summary

Raises the state minimum wage from $4.75 to $6.50 over three years.

Biblical Reasoning

This Measure expands the State’s involvement in commerce. It is wrong conceptually, as well as practically. God has given us the freedom of the marketplace to determine these matters.

The practical effect of this Measure would be higher taxes collected, inflation (labor remains the same, only the standard of what is paid is changed) and some degree of higher prices. Higher prices lead to cheaply made products as people resist paying the true value for quality goods. The spiral of debased currency and resultant product degradation is described in Isaiah 1:2.

Luke 3:14 — “Soldiers also asked him, “And we, what shall we do?” And he said to them, “Do not extort money from anyone by threats or by false accusation, and be content with your wages.””
Isaiah 1:2 — “Thy silver is become dross, thy wine mixed with water.”
