Summary
Prohibits unions from using payroll deductions (public resource) for political money.
Biblical Reasoning
Clearly, the financial support of a union’s political activity is not a legitimate use of state tax monies. This is particularly true since these unions are very partisan supporters of various issues and candidates. It is just flat wrong for any union bosses to use your tax dollars to build their political machine.
Election Results
Voters rejected prohibiting public resources for political funds (51% No).
Full PEAPAC Analysis
PEAPAC Explanation: We have supported very similar Ballot Measures in 1998 and 2000. These Measures are all attempts to stop tax-financed state resources from being used to raise money for various unions and their political purposes. Clearly, the financial support of a union’s political activity is not a legitimate use of state tax monies. This is particularly true since these unions are very partisan supporters of various issues and candidates. It is just flat wrong for any union bosses to use your tax dollars to build their political machine. The current practice is just not equitable for the many union members whose views are not reflected by their unions. It’s wrong for the groups and candidates that are then the target of such unions’ political activity. But most of all, it’s just not right for you, the taxpayer to have to give your money to help a union bureaucracy support abortion rights, public schools, higher taxes, and other such “causes.” We urge a Yes vote on Measure 64
