PEAPAC Recommends: NO

Opposed for same reasons as Measure 82; also opposes funding public schools (seen as threat to Christian youth) with casino money.

Summary

Authorizes a specific private casino in Wood Village.

Biblical Reasoning

For the same reasons we oppose Measure 82, we recommend a No vote on Measure 83. But we note in passing that vested tribal gambling interests have cynically used Christian political groups in our region and nation to combat any competition for their existing casinos.

According to statistical studies by the Nehemiah Project and other groups, current public schools pose the greatest threat to Christian youth that now exists. Want good gambling odds on a Christian child to leave the faith? Send them from K-12 to public school.

Full PEAPAC Analysis

PEAPAC Explanation: Measure 83 authorizes a private gambling casino in Wood Village. This is the companion Measure to Measure 82. For the same reasons we oppose Measure 82, we recommend a No vote on Measure 83. But we note in passing that vested tribal gambling interests have cynically used Christian political groups in our region and nation to combat any competition for their existing casinos. Additionally, we find The Grange’s attempt to lure us into voting for this casino because it will add more money to Oregon’s government (public) schools should have the opposite effect on us. According to statistical studies by the Nehemiah Project and other groups, current public schools pose the greatest threat to Christian youth that now exists. Want good gambling odds on a Christian child to leave the faith? Send them from K-12 to public school. We recommend a No vote on Measure 83
