Summary
Makes all federal income taxes fully deductible on Oregon tax returns.
Biblical Reasoning
The State needs tax dollars to do its proper Biblical function. But how much is too much? 1 Samuel 8:15-18 says that when the State takes ten percent of the income of the people, it is taking too much. God’s “tax” on his people is the tithe, literally the “tenth,” or ten percent. It’s blatantly wrong and tyrannical for the State to take as much as God does.
Election Results
Voters rejected the full federal tax deductibility (55% No).
Full PEAPAC Analysis
PEAPAC Explanation: If passed, Measure 91 would change the Oregon Constitution to make all federal income taxes fully deductible on Oregon tax returns. We support this and other Measures on this year’s ballot that seek to reduce taxation. For an extended discussion of our reasons, see our sidebar “ The Bible, Taxation and Whiskey”.
Currently, the Oregon state government spends about 18 percent of the combined personal income of the State. That’s too much.
Measure 91 fixes a part of the problem – double taxation. It would relieve us of having to pay State taxes on our Federal taxes. It would make our income tax a truer tax on income, not a tax on taxes. We urge a Yes vote on Measure 91.
