Biblical Reasoning

First, public schools leave God out of education. They are, at their heart, self-consciously secular, and are therefore counterproductive to true education, which takes God as it’s starting point. Second, we question whether its government’s job to educate most children. In the Bible, the State’s primary job is to punish criminals, while the parents’ primary job is to train up their children.

Like the leech’s two daughters in Proverbs 30:15 , public school advocates ALWAYS cry, “Give, give.” Like the fire of Proverbs 30:16, they’re never satisfied, they never say, “It is enough.”

PEAPAC Explanation: If passed, Measure 1 would have the practical effect of stabilizing or increasing funding for public schools, and would also further centralize funding of these schools. All Oregonians desire good education. But to reach that goal, should we increase funding for pubic schools? We think not, and therefore urge a No vote on Measure 1.

First, public schools leave God out of education. They are, at their heart, self-consciously secular, and are therefore counterproductive to true education, which takes God as it’s starting point. Second, we question whether its government’s job to educate most children. In the Bible, the State’s primary job is to punish criminals, while the parents’ primary job is to train up their children. Parents and private schools can do the job less expensively and better. The State of Oregon currently spends around $6000 per student per year, and that doesn’t include building costs! Third, centralized state-controlled public schools politicize education. The result of politically correct public schools is the slide in morals that marks our culture.

Don’t feel guilty for saying “No” to more money for public schools. Like the leech’s two daughters in Proverbs 30:15 , public school advocates ALWAYS cry, “Give, give.” Like the fire of Proverbs 30:16, they’re never satisfied, they never say, “It is enough.” Nor do they provide fruits worthy of such “giving.” The answer is not stabilized funding for public schools, but a gradual replacement of these schools through privatization and restoration to parents of their ability to discharge the duties graciously given to them by God. We therefore oppose Measure 1, and recommend a No vote on it.
