Summary
Repeals the 1994 ban on using dogs and bait for hunting bears and cougars.
Biblical Reasoning
Is it really the State’s job to engage in prior restraint, punishing the possible evil-doing of an inappropriate use of dogs in hunting by prohibiting such use? We think not.
Election Results
Voters rejected the repeal, keeping the ban on bear/cougar hunting with dogs (60% No).
Full PEAPAC Analysis
Two years ago, Oregonians made it illegal to use dogs and traps to hunt for bears and cougars. Is it really the State’s job to engage in prior restraint, punishing the possible evil-doing of an inappropriate use of dogs in hunting by prohibiting such use? We think not.
Also, cougar populations are growing in many places in the Western United States, threatening people, pets and livestock. We recommend a YES vote.
