Summary
Requires the government to mail notices to landowners when changes to land use laws limit the use of their property.
Biblical Reasoning
This very important Ballot Measure seeks to let landowners know (at least twenty days in advance) what the government is planning on doing with their (the private land owners) land. This Measure is clearly in line with the Biblical emphasis on private property.
Election Results
Voters overwhelmingly approved the notification requirement (80% Yes).
Full PEAPAC Analysis
PEAPAC Explanation: This Measure will force the government to let you know (via mail and ahead of time!) when they are planning on increasing regulations or restrictions on property you own. We strongly urge a Yes vote on this Measure.
PEAPAC Commentary and Recommendation: For a number of years, governmental entities have exercised increasing control of private property. Mussolini style fascism was a system that kept the outward forms of free enterprise, but so regulated and controlled these forms that private property became a mere illusion. While Mussolini lost the war, his system of governance has marked the modern era. This very important Ballot Measure seeks to let landowners know (at least twenty days in advance) what the government is planning on doing with their (the private land owners) land.
This Measure is clearly in line with the Biblical emphasis on private property… and thus deserves your strong support. A note about the cost of this Measure. You will read in the State of Oregon’s official Voters Pamphlet that this Measure will cost between two and three and a half million dollars a year. But it also shows that this is because each year, nearly 4,000 land use actions are taken which are restrictive of land owners’ uses of their land! Our hope is that Measures like this will reduce these enormous numbers of such actions, thus saving tax dollars. May God in His grace grant that this Measure, in some small way, helps to stem this rising tide of state intervention into private property ownership rights.
