PEAPAC Recommends: NO

Tax dollars should only fund biblical roles of government (punishing evil); forces taxpayers to fund enemies.

Summary

Uses tax dollars to fund political campaigns for candidates who accept spending limits.

Biblical Reasoning

But the worldview of its sponsors seems statist. A statist thinks that the answer to most problems lies in giving more power to the state. In this case, Measure 6 purports to reform the process by making it more state-controlled and taxpayer-financed. As we have argued throughout this Guide, we believe tax dollars are most appropriately used to finance the basic duties of the State. These duties are to restrain certain sins by punishing those that do evil ( Rom. 13:4) and to praise the righteous (2 Pet. 2:14).

PEAPAC Explanation: If passed, Measure 6 would use your taxes to finance political campaigns for certain state offices. This Measure is part of the so-called “campaign finance reform” movement.

2:14). We think it is wrong to force citizens to pay for many current social programs. But this Measure would move us even further away from a Biblical use of the power to tax. It would, in essence, force you to finance the political campaigns of those with whom you have radical public policy disagreements. Your taxes would be used to finance your enemies. This is not a reformation, but a deformation of the political process. We strongly oppose this and thus urge a No vote on Measure 6.
