Summary
Increases the amount of federal tax that can be deducted from Oregon state taxes.
Biblical Reasoning
Our preference is Measure 91, which would make all federal income tax paid fully deductible on Oregon tax returns. (For our reasons, see Measure 91 and our sidebar, “The Bible, Taxation and Whiskey”).
Election Results
Voters approved the increased tax deduction (51% Yes).
Full PEAPAC Analysis
PEAPAC Explanation: If passed, Measure 88 would let you deduct more of the federal taxes you pay from your taxable income on your Oregon income tax return, resulting in lower taxes for some. This Measure is very similar to Measure 91.
Our preference is Measure 91, which would make all federal income tax paid fully deductible on Oregon tax returns. (For our reasons, see Measure 91 and our sidebar, “The Bible, Taxation and Whiskey”) . But we still urge a Yes vote on Measure 88.
Measure 91 is a Constitutional Amendment, while Measure 88 isn’t. Therefore, if both Measures pass, Measure 91, our preferred measure, would take precedence. But if Measure 91 fails, and Measure 88 passes, some relief would still be forthcoming. We therefore urge you to vote Yes on both Measures 88 and 91.
