Summary
Requires annual written permission from employees before unions can use payroll deductions for politics.
Biblical Reasoning
The Bible says that a worker deserves his wages ( Luke 10:17; 1 Tim. 5:18). We agree, and this measure would help ensure that the worker does indeed get all his wages, to use for whatever purposes he sees fit.
Election Results
Voters rejected the payroll deduction restrictions (55% No).
Full PEAPAC Analysis
PEAPAC Explanation: If passed, Measure 92 would amend the Oregon Constitution and require employers and unions to get written permission each year from their employees before they could make payroll deductions for political purposes. Workers should have the ability to say “No” to payroll deductions from their checks for political causes that they don’t support. And it should be easy for the worker to keep his money rather than give it to a union political committee.
Today, workers do have the right to a refund of such deductions. But many do not know of this right. And it is rarely easy for the worker to get his money back from the union’s political machinery. The Bible says that a worker deserves his wages ( Luke 10:17; 1 Tim. 5:18). We agree, and this measure would help ensure that the worker does indeed get all his wages, to use for whatever purposes he sees fit. We urge a Yes vote on Measure 92.
